This morning, the Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny - Dollo met the interns from Pepperdine University Caruso School of Law in the Chief Justice's boardroom at the Supreme Court building, Judiciary headquarters, Kampala.

The nine interns were accompanied by Mr. Scott Leist, East Africa Director at Pepperdine Caruso Law and Ms Hope Dease, Assistant Director of Advocacy and Marketing.

The Chief Justice shared with the students that the Judiciary of Uganda and Pepperdine University are like family.

"We value the relationship with Pepperdine University and we have greatly benefited from it," he said.

He said Pepperdine University is a springboard for the Uganda Judiciary, particularly in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution, and its influence is reflected in other countries in Africa.

He was glad that the group of students now marked 300 Pepperdine University interns who have interned at the Judiciary of Uganda.

He advised the interns to have an open mind while working with Justices and to make the most of their limited time here so as to benefit.

Ms Dease thanked the Chief Justice for the hospitality accorded to Pepperdine University over the years. She noted that with this group, about 300 interns have come to Uganda.

Ms. Dease also reviewed what the interns had been doing the past week, including learning about different courts and their research on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Uganda Judiciary.

Mr Marcello Jones, who spoke on behalf of the interns, thanked the Chief Justice for hosting them and giving them a platform to learn.

"We are a small part of the illustrious relationship that you have with Pepperdine, and we cannot wait to experience what Uganda has for us in the eight weeks are going to be here," Mr Jones said.

In attendance at the meeting was Prof Andrew Khaukha, the Judiciary Technical Advisor.
